Team Captain Rob Porter

Results and reports

Victory snatched as B team produce epic performance
Worksop  B 3-3Sasca A

Phil Griffiths 1 Louis Brijmohun
Phil Beckett ½Miles Edwards-Wright
Rob Porter ½ Evie Hollingworth
Michael Clark 1 Steve Gibbs
Dave Fidler ½ Martin Lau
Andrew Smith ½Steve Lee

Looking at their team we were outgunned all the way down, this was despite this being a weakened SASCA team. Early on Rob asked me if he should take a draw against the superstar girl. I said yes and so we were on the scoreboard. It continued in this tense for most of the game suddenly it was clear that phil had a real bind on board won and he won against a player with a 100% record in the league  a couple of more tense draws  by myself and Dave left us sitting on 2.5-1.5 Michael and andrew still playing we were looking at two wins! Michale mishandled a Rook and pawn ending and lost and Andrew kept his nerve and with both flags hovering grasped a draw so a 3-3 draw against the odds but we left thinking about what might have been!

Tense encounter sees points shared
Worksop B   3 3 Clay Cross A
Ivan David W 1 0 Anthony L Natt
Phil Griffiths B ½ ½ Armine Mashdian
Phill J Beckett W ½ ½ Dean M Hartley
Robert Porter B ½ ½ Carl Gartside
Michael Clark W 0 1 Alex Webster
A David Fidler B ½ ½ Paul Kelman
well going from the top Ivan established a strong position and his opponent was under intense pressure but still played some trickey moves. Phil's opponet turned down a couple of draw offers and of course it finished as a draw. I played an inaccuracy in the opening and suddenly hit back assumed it was drawn but looking later I perhaps had an edge. Rob played well to draw with a 150. Michael seemed to be losing, winning and then drawn and somehow managed to lose. Dave's game was like mine the end position he was a pawn down, but could change it round with an edge. So both sides thought they could have won and at the end were satisfied with the draw.

Unususally I speny a lot of time at the board
In order (see Chris's game below,
Phil Griffiths won in some style not without difficulty
My game was complex but after g6 it was more about damage limitation
Michael was winning then losing then winning and finally lost
Yousef seemed to be fine and suddenly his queen was trapped
Rob solid as ever earned a well deserved draw

Tough Encounter sees narrow loss

Worksop B 2½ 3½ Stannington A
Christopher Chambers W ½ ½ Ryan Burgin
Phil Griffiths B 0 1 Kier Morton
Phill J Beckett W 1 0 Mike Grimsley
Michael Clark B 0 1 Alan Sutton
Andrew J Smith W 0 1 C Allen
David Fidler B 1 0 Peter Locking

On paper this looked like a close match and so it proved.
On board 1 Chris had a tough tussle with Ryan and the resulting ending was even so a draw looked  a fair result.  Board 2 saw a titanic struggle decided in the time scramble at the end, Phill had a pair of dangerous past pawns but accurate defence saw the extra bishop prove decisive.
Well  I was playing an old advesary who I had drawn with on many occasions (alwayswith black) but this time it was white. I was faced with a dragon and unforunately mike played an inaccuracy early on which netted me a pawn after a long struggle my he blundered a rook away. Michael played a little too passively and paid the price in a cramped position succuming to a mating attack. Andrew seemed to be doing well appeared to have a space advantage, but he overeached and lost. Dave's opponet gifted him a rook.
